The 3rd photographer I am going to study is Aritz Bermudez. He was Born in Venezuela and grew up in Guatemala, And graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York.As well as being a photographer, Bermudez is also a graphic designer and He uses both skills to create his work. Bermudez superimposes a couple of landscape photos, one of which is confined to the bounds of a silhouette.Bermudez is defineately one of my favorite photographers, and I believe that he doesn't get enough press for his work.
From both his 'Little Boys' and 'little Girls' collections, this picture is my favorite.
First of all, I love the colours. They all manage to match despite the fact they are two completely different landscapes. Picking the pictures apart, both landscape shots contrasting each other. The centre image is bright whereas the photo behind is a dark and foggy atmosphere, showing the polar opposites of the worlds landscapes but They do have one thing in common because both share a single feature, rock. Bermudez has cleverly been able to make one feel two different emotions by contrasting the pictures, with one a feeling of happiness and tranquility, and with the other a feeling of being cold and alone.
For the background image, Bermudez would have used a slow shutter speed to capture the most rolling over the rocks and small aperture to get a good depth of Field. He also would have used soft, natural lighting to make an even more moody atmosphere. I find it quite difficult to tell what this picture is of, I believe that it could be a birds eye view of a mountainous terrain, but the fog makes it quite hard to tell.
The central image is exposed to harsh natural sunlight so I can imagine this photo was taken in the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. It's clearly taken at a beach, possible at a tropical location due to the coloration of the sea.
This photo is also among my favourites.
Out of all his photos I would say I like this picture the least. I don't think the background imagine fully compliments the inner picture, Bermudez could definitely have used a better image. However I'm fond of the central image, I like the somewhat hazy atmosphere and golden sky. I can imagine that both images were taken in the early evening but in different seasons, the background image in winter, and the other in the summer. I believe both used a slightly low aperture but the inner image will be slightly higher as the foreground is slightly clearer than the background.
The fourth photo I will be analysing is this one.
Bermudez has again contrasted mountains and seascapes in this photograph. I particularly like the inner image because of the sun's light piercing through the clouds. The centre image breaks the rule of thirds by having the focal point in the middle of the picture. However, in some circumstances by breaking the rule of thirds one can make a magnificent image, which applies here. Both images have harsh lighting allowing for a harsh colour contrast, and both will have used a small aperture to ensure a good depth of field. The background image would have been taken with a long shutter speed to capture the mist and clouds effectively.
These are some more of Aritz Bermudez's work from the 'Little Boys' and 'Little Girls' collection:
